The seven Liberal-Democratic MPs who signed in support of candidate for premiership Pavel Filip had been blackmailed, acting chairman of the PLDM Valeriu Strelet said in the talk show “Politics” on TV 7 channel, IPN reports.

“It’s clear that they will vote for Filip as they can no longer go back on their word. They were blackmailed and scared. I have no doubt about it. They tried to ‘trap’ more MPs of the PLDM. At the right moment, they will say how things stood. Now I do not have evidence to go to the law enforcement bodies. None of them will admit it. We see fear in their eyes now. It’s clear that they are directed,” stated Strelet.

The Liberal-Democrats’ leader confirmed that a number of MPs of the PLDM were phoned by the party’s former leader Vlad Filat, who is now in custody. “Some of my colleagues informed me that they were phoned by Filat, but I do not know details about their discussions. One of them told the Council’s meeting that he was called by Vlad Filat. They told me that they were surprised,” he stated.

Strelet noted that after the seven MPs were ‘trapped’, the PDM showed no interest in the PLDM. “It was normal for the PDM to express no interest in the PLDM afterward. If these seven MPs hadn’t yielded, we would have been 18 MPs and could have negotiated and imposed conditions. But the PLDM’s possibility of negotiation was undermined,” he said.

As to his dismissal from the post of Prime Minister, Strelet said the move was orchestrated because he could not be controlled and because he insisted on the investigation of the leasing out of the Chisinau International Airport.
