Russian Ambassador to Moldova Valery Kuzmin, in a meeting at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, reasserted Russia’s official position that the Transnistrian conflict should be resolved by observing Moldova’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Ministry.
The diplomat was invited to the Ministry after high-ranking Russian officials sent congratulatory massages to representatives of the Transnistrian administration. He was informed about Moldovan authorities’ concerns about the message formulas that can be interpreted as moral support to the secessionist policy of Transnistria.
In the program “In Profunzime” on Pro TV channel on September 19, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said Moldova needs that the relations with Russia be built on the national interests. “The ambassador was invited to the Foreign Ministry, as they do in the whole world, and notified of our viewpoint. We are waiting for the relevant explanations,” he stated.
Vlad Filat also said that Moldova does not recognize the elections in the Transnistrian region and the involvement from outside is fully related to the internal political processes of Moldova.
Last week, the Russian Premier sent a congratulatory massage to the Transnistrian authorities on the occasion of the celebration of 21 years of independence. The message says that Transnistria managed to achieve many things in the period, with Russian supporting and being near the Transnistrians.
