Vasile Tarlev, Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova in 2001-2008, has announced his plans to run independently in the presidential election of this autumn. “In accordance with the country’s Constitution and the democratic principles in a healthy society, in which political competition is the key to common success,” the ex-Premier told a press conference.

He noted that he decided to get more actively involved in the political and economic life of the country “at the request and encouragement of many compatriots”. Vasile Tarlev called on the citizens of the Republic of Moldova, political parties, personalities of the country and, in particular, the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin, to act together for “the salvation and development of our homeland, Moldova”.

The situation in the country is serious, says the former Prime Minister, and it can be even worse than in the 1990s. All the areas of life are affected, in particular people’s well-being. It is necessary, and still possible, to achieve an advanced level of development in Moldova, which would meet the expectations of the people.

Vasile Tarlev is an engineer, doctor of science, with over 30 years of working experience. He is the father of two children and served as Prime Minister “in a very difficult period for our country, when Moldova was in economic decline”, as he said.
