Veaceslav Negruta, who tendered his resignation from the post of minister of finance on August 14, said the reasons for his resignation are both professional and personal, IPN reports.

In a press briefing, the former minister explained why he decided to quit. He told the journalists that he offered his resignation in July. “My decision is based on professional and personal aspects. I think that at this stage, I accomplished my mission in the post to which I was named. We managed to stabilize public finances. They are healthy and sure and are exposed to no major risks. I implemented a number of projects that produced results, including the new law on the local public finances and the responsibility as regards taxation,” said Veaceslav Negruta.

He expressed his dissatisfaction with the fate of important projects promoted by him during his tenure, this being one of the reasons of his leaving. He mentioned the bill on indirect taxation whose adoption is delayed by Parliament. “Many luxurious cars continue to travel on Moldova’s streets. They have been renewed in the last two years. This shows that there are people who do not pay taxes on their property,” said the ex-minister.

As to the personal aspects, Veaceslav Negruta said the stage when he dedicated himself to work is probably over and he now needs better communication with his dear people. “They spread rumors that I quit because of the criminal case started against me. A politically ordered case cannot make me resign. The fate of this case will be similar to the fate of the other cases of the kind,” he said, adding that he remains near his team, the ministry and the Government, with all the experience he gained.

President Nicolae Timofti signed a decree to dismiss Veaceslav Negruta this morning. Also today, the new Minister of Finance Anatol Arapu, who held this post in 1998-1999, was sworn in.
