In the next session of March 21-22, the European Commission for Democracy through Law (Venice Commission) will pronounce on the reforms implemented in the electoral sector and legal system of Moldova. The announcement was made by the Secretary of the Venice Commission Thomas Markert in a meeting with Head of Parliament Igor Corman in Chisinau, IPN reports.
Earlier, the Speaker sent a bill providing for the introduction of the joint vote in the electoral system of Moldova to the Venice Commission and asked it to state its opinion on it as well as on a bill concerning the disciplinary punishment of judges.
“There is no perfect electoral system in the world. Every country has its own system. We want to discuss the given bill with members of the Venice Commission so as to establish a position that would help improve the situation, taking into account the democratic European standard,” Igor Corman said in the meeting.
While in Chisinau, the delegation of the Venice Commission will meet with representatives of the authorities and civil society. The three-day visit is made in connection with the reforms initiated by the authorities, including in justice and the electoral sector.
