The lump-sums allotted to veterans for building or purchasing homes based on a decision by the special commission could be collected by successors if the beneficiary dies. This is provided in a draft decision proposed by the Ministry of Finance.

Currently, the veterans are entitled to a lump-sum allowance for building or purchasing homes, but this right cannot be transmitted to successors.

The local public authorities reported cases when beneficiaries died after the given decision was taken and the family members continue to face difficulties because they do not have appropriate living conditions.

In order to support the families of veterans, the Ministry of Finance suggests that the lump-sum and the related rights should be transferred to the successors if the beneficiary dies after the special commission takes a decision on the allocation of the lump-sum and does not collect it.

The Ministry said the given decision will be implemented within the limits of the state budget allocations planned for the purpose. A sum of 8.5 million lei was earmarked for paying such allowances to veterans this year.
