Twenty veterans of the Second World War, ten of whom fought as part of the Soviet army, while the other ten as part of the Romanian army, received commemorative medals on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the victory over fascism in a festive meeting held in the Government Building. “I wanted the Romanian and Soviet army veterans to come together today. You together brought the fascism to an end. It is 65 years from the victory and it's time that you shake hands and come to terms,” Prime Minister Vlad Filat said. The Premier congratulated the veterans, saying it is due to them that the peoples now live in peace and are able to bring up their children in harmony. “I thank you for your sacrifice,” he said. The veterans of the two armies were handed over the Commemorative Cross of the Second World War. The vegans who formed part of the Soviet army also received the anniversary medal of the CIS. None of the veterans who fought as part of the Red Army delivered a speech. The others thanked Vlad Filat for the high distinction – the Commemorative Cross – and for the efforts made to restore the historical truth. In the end, the veterans drank by a glass of champagne and sat for common pictures in reconciliation.
