Businessman Victor Topa, who was recently sentenced to ten years in jail, is in an EU member state, where he will seek political asylum, the leader of the Anti-Mafia Movement Sergiu Mocanu said in a news conference on Monday, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I assure you that both Victor Topa and his family are in a safe place where they will enjoy the protection of democratic states that are yet to comprehend the true essence of the Moldovan regime. Victor Topa is not guilty. I’m glad that he left Moldova, as I urged him. I told him what it is like to be in the hands of these criminals from the police and the Prosecutor’s Office,” said Sergiu Mocanu.
He also said that Victor Topa is not a fugitive, but a person who is in the custody of democratic countries. When it becomes possible, the businessman will return to the country and will continue to fight against the mafia. According to Sergiu Mocanu, cases started to be opened after the persons fighting against the mafia revealed the truth about the First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc. Sergiu Mocanu stressed the struggle against the mafia did not end. “It only started and will be a tough one. I assure you that the victory will be on our side,” said the leader of the Anti-Mafia Movement.
Asked if he is not afraid to be accused of complicity, Sergiu Mocanu said he was already accused of complicity and coup and his fears remained in penitentiary No. 13 in Chisinau. According to him, Victor Topa went abroad one week before being convicted, immediately after finding out what is going to happen from certain sources.
Sergiu Mocanu also said that Galina Proidisvet, ex-first vice president of BC Victoriabank, who filed a complaint against Victor Topa, and her lawyer are persons who obey Vlad Plahotniuc.
In another development, Sergiu Mocanu spoke about the MPs’ decision to question the prosecutor general in a closed-door meeting this week. He said that the leader of the Liberal-Democratic Party, Prime Minister
Vlad Filat pretends to be struggling against the mafia. “Plahotniuc had enough levers to blackmail Filat and Voronin. They want to know what the prosecutor general knows about them in a closed-door meeting, where the public cannot here,” said Sergiu Mocanu.
Businessman Victor Topa got ten years for blackmail. He was accused of obliging Galina Proidisvet in 2007 to sign a power of attorney in the name of Vladimir Morari, who was also convicted. The document was used to sell the shares owned by her in BC Victoriabank at very low prices. In a news conference on October 24, Galina Proidisvet’s lawyer Iulian Balan said the First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc has no connection with this case.
