Victoria Furtună, who ran for head of state last autumn, launched the "Moldova Mare" (“Greater Moldova”) Party on Tuesday. The party's objectives include the promotion of democratic values and national prosperity, Furtuna announced. She referred to the vision of the "Moldova Mare" Party on issues of economic development, social justice and consolidation of national identity, IPN reports.
"We will not join any military bloc. We are a neutral state and this is our strength," said Victoria Furtună.
The website of the Public Services Agency shows that the party was registered in 2007. Initially it was called the Social-Political Movement "For Nation and Country" and was led by Tudor Deliu. In the summer of 2008, Tudor Deliu announced that the Movement was joining the Liberal Democratic Party of Moldova (PLDM). Subsequently, Deliu joined himself the PLDM team, but the Movement continued to work, its new leader being Nicolae Uțica. In January 2009, the Movement was renamed "For Nation and Country" Party. In 2020, the party changed its name to the “Moldova Mare” Party and Teodor Turta was named its new chairman.
After 18 years of work in the prosecutor's office, Victoria Furtună scandalously resigned in March 2024. Among the reasons invoked was the disagreement with the suppression of the justice system by the ruling party.
Victoria Furtună ran in the presidential elections as an independent candidate, supported by a group of citizens. The press reported that Victoria Furtuna was one of Ilan Shor's masked candidates. In the October 20, 2024 elections, she won 4.45% of the vote.
