Dozens of people laid flowers to Grigore Vieru's grave on Friday, October 9, on the occasion of the International Poetry Festival in memory of the late poet. Officials, people of culture, relatives and friends of the bard came to the Central Cemetery in Chisinau situated on Armeneasca street, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The poet's son Calin Vieru said he comes to the grave every time he has problems and he can easier solve them then as there is a special vibration there. He said he is glad that events are held in memory of Grigore Vieru and that new talents are discovered by such events.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca said that Grigore Vieru is a symbol of the people and of the entire Romanian culture. “His works will be eternal as they speak about love, mother, language, historical truths and Romanian people,” he said.
“Grigore Vierul was and will remain an eternal fire that produced poems that will never disappear,” said writer Valeriu Matei.
The festival starts in Chisinau (October 9 and 10) and continues in Iasi (October 11 and 12). It will bring together more than 60 participants.
Writer from Iasi Daniel Corbu, one of the poet's friends, said that Grigore Vieru loved Iasi as strongly as Bessarabia.
Grigore Vieru's personality will be presented at the festival through poems and songs. Forty-six applicants took part in the contest. There were selected four of them, two from Moldova and two from Romania, said academician Mihai Cimpoi, who is the president of the Writers Union of Moldova. The special invitees are Tudor Gheorghe, with a program under the verses of Grigore Vieru, and Fuego.
The second edition of the book “Grigore Vieru: Contemporaries' Recollections” will be launched on the occasion of the festival. Fifty friends of the poet relate stories about him and assess his life and work in the book.
Children from the primary school No. l91 “Antonin Ursu” also came to Vieru's grave. They said they want to know better the bard's works and to learn what is love for the country, mother and everything that is beautiful.
The musical performance under Grigore Vieru's verses will take place on Friday evening at the Writers Union of Moldova, starting at 17.30.
