Vlad Filat assumes responsibility for the bills adopted by the votes of the MPs of the PLDM last week. In a news conference on Wednesday, the Liberal-Democratic leader said the bills were passed in order to protect the European values and to restore people’s confidence in the justice system and the political class, IPN reports.
Vlad Filat said the PLDM is a pro-European party that will take steps whenever it establishes that the independence of justice in Moldova is ignored. He discussed the situation in Moldova with European leaders and reiterated that the PLDM will continue to implement measures to continue the European integration process. “The European future means workplaces, better life, decent salaries, more rights and freedoms for our citizens. The PLDM is a pro-European party and we will act when we see selective justice,” stated the former Premier.
He also said that the PLDM voted the bill on the dismissal of the prosecutor general because the procedure for appointing him was not respected. He explained that the vote for the joint electoral system was annulled because the law was passed in a hurry. As to the bill on the transfer of the National Anticorruption Center under the Government’s management, Vlad Filat said justice should not be controlled by a political party. He didn’t refer to the amendments enabling the MPs to dismiss the constitutional judges and concerning the rise in the election threshold, which were most harshly criticized by European officials.
On May 3, the lawmakers of the PLDM and PCRM passed together a number of bills, which were afterward censured by the European officials. They recommended President Nicolae Timofti not to promulgate them.
