The chairman of the Liberal-Democratic Party Vlad Filat expects that the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu would come with the two Communist votes needed to elect the head of state. “We will see how these votes are found, if Mister Ghimpu agreed with Voronin not only on Ionita’s dismissal, but also on the missing votes,” said Vlad Filat.
The statements were made in reaction to Mihai Ghimpu’s assertion that if Vlad Filat wanted, the Communist votes would be found.
Vlad Filat replied that such assertions were made earlier as well, but they weren’t supported. “I heard similar affirmations earlier, centering on the trump cards. Now we have the result that we have,” said the Premier.
He also said that the problem resides not in the candidate for the presidency, but in the number of votes. “If Mister Lupu or Mister Ghimpu has the trump card that can bring the necessary votes, Marian Lupu will be elected President. If this is not possible, it is evident that we must find a candidate that will poll at least 61 votes so as to be voted in,” said the Liberal-Democrat leader, urging the politicians to be calm and sensible.
The presidential elections will take place on November 18. The Alliance for European Integration is two votes short to elect the head of state independently.
