Lawyer Igor Popa said that businessman Ilan Shor, who is a witness in the case of ex-Premier Vlad Filat, was insincere in the Mach 11 hearing, this being agitated and answering rudely some of the questions of the defense, IPN reports.
According to the lawyer, the defense convinced itself once again that this is a political case. Ilan Shor wasn’t questioned as required. Instead of relating in court what he said during the investigation, Shor only noted that he maintains his previous statements.
“This is unacceptable as he had to say what he stated earlier. For a fair trial, not only the statements of a witness are important, but also his behavior and reaction to the questions put by the prosecution or the defense. For example, when we I posed him concrete questions, Shor looked at the prosecutor, who showed him by the head not to answer. Shor’s insincere behavior was evident because he was red and drank a lot of water. We do not believe his statements,” stated the lawyer.
Igor Popa noted that Vlad Filat also spoke to Ilan Shor. “At a certain moment, Shor answered using rude words and this means that he was dishonest. Vlad Filat is writing a press statement, but it is not yet ready,” he stated.
Prosecutor Adriana Betisor told the journalists that Ilan Shor maintained what he said in the self-denouncing statements and provided explanations. The defense submitted an application that will be examined on March 12 and the hearing will continue the same day, starting at 10:30am.
