In the dialogue with US officials, Moldovan First Deputy Speaker Vlad Plahotniuc will reiterate the demand to remove Moldova from the coverage of the Jackson-Vanik amendment. This one of the goals of the First Deputy Speaker’s official trip to the United State of America between September 2 and 7, Info-Prim Neo learned from a press release of the Parliament. Vlad Plahotniuc will also have meetings at the International Monetary Fund, at the Manhattan Chamber of Commerce and at the central headquarters of OPIC (Overseas Private Investment Corporation), which runs programs of supporting joint Moldovan-American companies. The First Deputy Speaker will reiterate Moldova’s openness to intensify bilateral relations with the United States and will call for solutions to increase American investments in Moldova. Besides, Vlad Plahotniuc hopes to stimulate the experience exchange with the US, which can help Moldova’s reforms. In this regard, during the dialogue with the US congressmen, he will plead for Moldova to be removed from the coverage of the Jackson-Vanik amendment, which classifies the Moldovan economy as a non-functional market economy and limits American investments in Moldova. Vlad Plahotniuc will also ask for support for Moldova’s European integration efforts, considering that the partnership with the United States always provided a credibility boost to all the EU candidate countries.
