The developments witnessed now in Moldova cannot be called “de-oligarchization”. The Democratic Party made particular mistakes and it accepts and regrets these. Greater effort should have been probably made to prevent the commission of these mistakes, Democratic MP Vladimir Cebotari was quoted by IPN as saying in a talk show on Publika TV channel.

“We should have probably focused on the developments in the justice sector so that we were preoccupied with this not less than with social projects and the quality of people’s lives. But we should not neglect things and should admit that the PDM was the party that focused on the improvement of the quality of life more than any other party in Moldova’s history,” stated the MP.

Political commentator Victor Gurău said the Democratic Party that achieved rather significant results in the socioeconomic and political spheres in 2016-2017 departed slightly from the democratic norms. “I ascertained rather essential departures as regards cooperation between state institutions, at the level of local public authorities and party work,” he stated.

According to the commentator, the activity of state institutions was partially substituted with the activity inside the party. “They called it coordination of the activity of institutions or the main control instruments in the political process. Society perceived this as an element of authoritarianism, of party involvement in the activity of state institutions and, after the nullification of the elections in Chisinau municipality, of political involvement in the decision-making process in the justice sector,” noted Victor Gurău.

In its meeting held last weekend, the Political Council of the PDM decided to transfer the party’s Extraordinary Congress from July 27 to September 7, arguing the party needs serious restructuring.
