Vladimir Voronin said that a game is played behind the back of the Liberal leader Mihai Ghimpu. “Ghimpu was in the Alliance and the AEI leaders met and consulted with each other, took decisions. Now they ignore him. The other components of the alliance need a delay and blame Mihai Ghimpu for everything,” said the Communist leader. ”They did not have other candidates than Lupu, but two weeks ago they said they had 13 candidates. We did not hear something about those candidates afterward. Then they proposed seven, four and remained with these two candidates.” As to candidate Veronica Bacalu who was fielded by the PLDM and PDM, Vladimir Voronin said that he does not know her. “I, as President, had only one meeting with her in 2001 or at the start of 2002. It’s not a reason to bring a person from abroad 12 years after she left. It is a fashion of the Baltic countries or some other states,” he stated. Speaking about former Health Minister Ion Ababii, who was earlier suggested by the PLDM and PDM, the leader of the PCRM said that nobody informed them about this candidate. He stressed that he found out about this candidate from the media and nobody asked for their opinion in this respect. Vladimir Voronin reiterated that the Communist parliamentary group will not take part in the Parliament’s sittings, except for the sitting when the date of the early elections will be fixed. According to him, the current legislative body does not have the right to elect the President. It can only adopt a decision to dissolve Parliament. Last week, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democrat Party fielded former deputy governor of the National Bank Veronica Bacalu for the presidency. But the Liberal Party refused to accept this candidate, saying they don’t know her, and to take part in the vote to set the date of the presidential elections.
