Businessman Vladimir Volkov is under house arrest. His lawyer, Dumitru Harea, told Info-Prim Neo that today, August 13, took place the trial during which the jail arrest measure was canceled and replaced with house arrest for 30 days. The ruling can be contested at the Court of Appeals. Vladimir Volkov is the manager of company employed in a European project and came into the spotlight after bringing accusations, during a press conference, towards a fraud scheme in a European grant project. “I pleaded for provisional release and judicial control. It’s obvious we don’t agree with this measure because now Volkov cannot execute the European project, and is obstructed from carrying it out”, explained Dumitru Harea. The lawyer added that the process is halted because the prosecutor is on vacation. “I wasn’t invited to any hearings. There are no actions regarding this case”, complained the lawyer. At the end of June, Vladimir Volkov claimed that large sums of money were being laundered through the process of border modernization, which had been financed by a European grant of over €10 million. According to him, €130,000 had been taken by the former head of the Border Guards Roman Revenco, through a company controlled by him. Afterwards, Volkov was arrested, while the press rumored that Revenco was the nephew of the former Minister of Interior Alexei Roibu.
