A group of volunteers organized the translation of official documents that regulate the situation in Moldova during a state of emergency on social networking sites. The volunteers, who include journalists, teachers and jurists, translate the ordinances of the Commission for the State of Emergency and the press releases of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the Ministry of Home Affairs and other authorities, IPN reports.
The group of volunteers works under the title and slogan “Let’s combat coronavirus by translation”. The volunteers use as sources the official Facebook pages of the Prime Minister and the governmental institutions and place the translations on the same pages, in the comments division.
The volunteering activity of was initiated by newspaperwoman Elena Levitskii-Pahomova. “I suggest providing assistance to our state institutions as volunteers. No one asked us to do this. But we, our friends, the close ones and many acquaintances of ours need this. Do we have foreigners in our country?”, said Elena Levitskii-Pahomova, addressing her Russian speaking mates from the list of friends on her Facebook page. The reaction came swiftly and the first document translated on a volunteering basis appeared on social networking sites the same day.
The closed group “Let’s combat coronavirus by translation” consists of 11 participants. Some of them live abroad, but reacted to the request to help rapidly translate the information of social importance into Russian.
Of all the decision-making bodies whose decisions regulate that socioeconomic life in Moldova during the state of emergency, only the Chisinau City Hall ensured the translation of the information into Russian.
The group of volunteers “Let’s combat coronavirus by translation” started to work on March 16.
