The former leading Communist member Iurie Muntean said that PCRM's decision to cooperate with the pro-European parties was made long before the elections, with Vladimir Voronin being influenced by the West. The statement was made during the “Politica” talk-show on TV 7, IPN reports.
Iurie Muntean, who was sacked from his position as party secretary at the Plenary Assembly of the PCRM Central Committee on Saturday, said that Voronin was okay until he went on a vacation to Europe. “The idea of a velvet revolution belonged to Voronin. We planned to occupy the Great National Assembly Square with protesters and force the governing coalition into accepting dialogue with us. The representatives of the diplomatic missions would have followed suit. Thus, we planned to obtain early elections. But after returning from his vacation, Voronin was a different man”, said Muntean.
The former PCRM secretary thinks that Vladimir Voronin was influenced by the West and especially by the diplomatic corps of the European countries and the US in Moldova. “Voronin sometimes had 10 meetings a day with Western ambassadors. I recall that one meeting with the US ambassador lasted two hours, when 15 minutes should have been enough. It's clear that Voronin was given instructions. After such meetings, he shocked us all by claiming that the radicals have no place in the party. It's obvious that the decision to collaborate with the pro-European parties was made long before the elections”, concluded Muntean.
The Plenary Assembly of the PCRM Central Committee agreed to cooperate with the pro-European parties on certain conditions. The Liberal leaders said that talks with PCRM might be worthwhile, but only after the new government coalition is formed. PD and PLDM are yet to announce their stance.
