The procedure for electing the head of state will end at 17.40, two hours after it was opened, the head of the special commission for the organization of the elections, MP Tudor Deliu said, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
Sixty-two MPs voted during the first half an hour – 58 MPs of the Alliance for European Integration, the three members of the group of Socialists and unaffiliated MP Mihai Godea.
Most of the lawmakers of the AEI showed the ballots when going out of the polling booth. Igor Dodon, Zinaida Greceanyi and Veronica Abramchuk voted against the alliance’s candidate Marian Lupu, while Mihai Godea cast his ballot without showing how he voted.
The Communist lawmakers have not taken part in the voting.
If Marian Lupu does not poll at least 61 votes, new elections will be held within 30 days.
