The administration of the Volunteers’ Union of Moldova asserted they are forced by the Government to no longer ask for concessions for the members. In a news conference held at Info-Prim Neo on September 28, the Union’s chairman Sergiu Caracai said somebody broke into the organization’s head office situated inside the Press House. ”There were stolen all the letters addressed to Prime Minister Vlad Filat, all the articles written by us that have not been yet published, 83 applications for being issued with the association’s membership card and 4 980 lei attached to them, 25 jubilee medals for volunteers, tickets for gasoline and diesel fuel, and four video cassettes showing the truth about the events of the Nistru war, which are the most important items,” said Sergiu Caracai. He described the event as ‘blind fulfillment of a political order given by the Government against the Volunteers’ Union. “The given illegalities were aimed at us because the Union’s National Council during 20 years addressed a series of problems faced by the war volunteers, including the necessity of adopting a law on the special status of war volunteers,” said Sergiu Caracai. The National Council of the Volunteers’ Union on September 28 signed a statement whereby they condemn the theft of property from the organization’s head office, demand restoring them and punishing those who gave and fulfilled the order.
