“Our objective is to learn from our Lithuanian partners’ experience in implementing reforms in different areas such as the legal system, education, culture, and broadcasting,” First Deputy Head of Parliament Vlad Plahotniuc said in meetings with officials of the Parliament of Lithuania. A delegation of Moldovan lawmakers, headed by the First Deputy Speaker, is in Vilnius on an official visit, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Parliament’s press office.
The meeting with Deputy Head of the Lithuanian Parliament Vytautas Stankevicius centered on the policy models that Moldova can borrow from the Lithuanian colleagues. “A number of reforms must be adjusted to the European legislation. I mean first of all the economic and commercial areas and quality control,” said Vytautas Stankevicius.
According to the deputy head of the parliamentary commission on foreign affairs Justinas Karosas, for Moldova to come closer to the European standards the political situation in the country should be stable. Another priority, according to the Lithuanian official, is to solve the border conflicts.
“The Lithuanian officials recommended that we should elect the head of state, this being a major condition if Moldova wants to make progress on the path to European integration,” said Vlad Plahotniuc.
According to the communiqué, Moldova is the first country that recognized Lithuania’s independence from the former USSR. Lithuania is a strategic partner of Moldova in its European integration efforts.
