When entering the Republic of Moldova, the private individuals can bring into the country unlimited amounts in Moldovan currency as well as cash and travelers checks in foreign currency. If the sum exceeds €10,000 or the equivalent per person, this should be declared in customs and confirming documents should be presented to the customs bodies. The same conditions are valid when leaving the country, but the taken out sum cannot exceed €50,000 or the equivalent.
In a response an inquiry by IPN Agency, the Customs Service says the amounts higher than €10,000 per person can be taken out of the country based on a certificate issued by licensed banks or an authorization issued by the National Bank of Moldova. Confirming documents can be also asked from the workplace if it is money earned as salary. If the money represents a donation, documents confirming this are required.
When private individuals who live or do not live in the Republic of Moldova take cash in other foreign currency than euros or the currency indicated in confirming documents out of the county, the equivalent of these sums in the given currency is determined based on the official exchange rate of the Moldovan leu set by the National Bank of Moldova for the day the state border of Moldova is crossed.
The persons should know that it is not allowed taking cash in national currency and cash and travelers checks in foreign currency into and out of Moldova in baggage that is not accompanied by the private individual. Those who do not comply and bring sums of money into the country without declaring these are deprived of the money based on contravention reports.
