The Cabinet on Wednesday has approved the list of winners of the 2016 National Awards. Culture Minister Monica Babuc says the list includes “personalities with outstanding achievements with a major impact on areas of national significance”.
A National Award for Science went to Dr. Constantin Etco for his contribution to the development of the health care management system and mandatory health insurance system. Another Award for Science was offered to academician Victor Tvircun for exploring the heritage of scholar Dimitrie Cantemir and promoting his work internationally.
Two Awards were offered for Technologic Innovation, one to Gheorghe Gaberi and Constantin Sirghi for vine-growing and wine-making achievements, and the other to Anatolie Zolotcov for his solution that increases the anti-seismic resistance of concrete walls.
The most Awards this year were offered for achievements in culture and arts. Folk music singer Nicolae Glib was awarded for his lifetime career, actor Petru Hadirca for promoting theatrical art nationally and abroad, and Virgiliu Margineanu together with Leontina Vatamanu for the successful foundation and organization of the Cronograf Documentary Festival.
Further Awards for Arts were offered to literary critic and poet Andrei Turcanu, poet Traian Vasilcau, and plastic artist Simion Zamsa.
The National Awards are offered annually by the Government in recognition for remarkable accomplishments in various areas. The selection is done through secret vote by a commission composed of the Moldovan Prime Minister, Ministers and heads of relevant governmental agencies, artists and members of the academia. The Award comes with a money prize of 100,000 lei.
A ceremony to hand out the Awards will take place Friday at the Palace of the Republic.
