Without cars on September 22!

The Ecologist Movement of Moldova urges all the Moldovan drivers to leave their personal cars at home on September 22 and walk or ride the bicycle as part of the European Mobility Week marked during September 16-22. “On September 22, at least the parliamentarians should leave their cars when going to work and ride the bicycle or use public units of transport,”Vladimir Garaba, the head of the Chisinau local office of the Ecologist Movement, said at a news conference on Friday, stressing that the levels of environmental pollution are alarmingly high. From 16 to 22 September 2009, hundreds of European towns and cities will participate in the eighth edition of European Mobility Week and invite their citizens to a wide range of activities promoting sustainable mobility. The 2009 campaign theme – Improving City Climates – underlines the importance of local level efforts to tackle climate change and improve quality of life through the promotion of alternative transport modes to the car such as cycling, walking, and public transport as well as schemes such car-sharing and car-pooling.
