As many as 15,700 marriages were registered in the Republic of Moldova last year, a decrease of 13.5% compared to 2022. The average age at first marriage was 30 years for men and 27 years for women, IPN reports.
According to the National Bureau of Statistics, there was also a decrease in the marriage rate: from 7.2 marriages per 1,000 inhabitants in 2022 to 6.4 marriages in 2023.
In 2023, 9,7000 couples divorced. The figure is by 1.1% higher compared to 2022. The divorce rate was 3.9 divorces per 1,000 inhabitants. The average age of spouses at divorce was 41.3 years for men and 38.3 years for women.
The average duration of a marriage ended by divorce was 12 years.
