The joint statement signed by 98 women who suffered as a result of the interaction with the prenatal medical system of Moldova was submitted to the Government and other competent institutions on January 12, IPN reports.

By the statement, the women request Prime Minister Pavel Filip to order wide-ranging inspections all over Moldova to assess the professional training of medical staff and the equipment used to provide medical assistance in case of premature births and not only.

“Very serious problems were detected in the prenatal medical system, starting with humiliation, embarrassment, discrimination, obstetric violence, corruption, malpractice, etc. Something should be changed in the medical system,” said co-author of the statement Alina Andronache.

The statement was also addressed to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection, the Office of the People’s Ombudsperson, the National Anticorruption Center and international institutions working in Moldova. These are requested to intervene in accordance with their responsibilities.

The petition was launched after a young woman related on a social networking site how she gave birth in the toilet of the Mother and Child Institute as a result of medical abortion recommended in the 21st week of pregnancy owing to congenital malformations in the fetus.
