The Italian authorities plan to legalize the work of hundreds of foreigners taking care of elderly and keeping Italian houses, including Moldovan women. The draft law is considered in the Lower Chamber of the Parliament and is part of an anti-crisis program. If endorsed, the maids may start working legally as from September, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The measure addresses all the families illegally hiring keepers and caretakers, Italians, citizens from or outside the EU, Popolo della liberta' specifies on its web page.
Each family can hire no more than one housekeeper and two people to take care of sick relatives. The employer should fill in a web form with data about the worker to be legalized, and should attach the copy of the receipt of the legalization fee of 500 euros.
For Italians and other EU citizens, it's enough to transfer 500 euros to the Italian Social Insurance Institute. The citizens outside the EU first shall apply to the Migration Service to get a stay permit. The police will search whether there area grounds to reject the permit.
If the draft is endorsed, the people working in Italian houses will benefit from stay permits, vacation and indemnities in case of losing jobs.
The workers ordered to be deported or the people with penal antecedents may not be legalized. The newspaper considers from 300 thousand to one million persons may benefit from this law.
