A draft law that aims to regulate the work of psychologists in the Republic of Moldova, including freelance psychologists, was registered in Parliament. The MP of the Party of Action and Solidarity Party Liliana Grosu said that the profession of psychologist should be regulated for several reasons, including the need to describe the legal conditions for practicing as psychologists in the public and private sectors, which should be based on quality standards, and also the importance of ensuring greater security and confidence for the beneficiaries of psychological assistance, the MP said at a news briefing, IPN reports.
Liliana Grosu pointed out that the draft law on psychological practice will regulate the principles, organizational conditions and forms of exercise of the profession, the requirements for the person who exercises the profession of psychologist, their rights and obligations, the rights of beneficiaries of psychological assistance.
According to the MP, the bill was drafted as a result of an extensive consultation process with the participation of psychologists from the public and private sectors, representatives of the academic community and civil society. “This bill is a novelty for the Republic of Moldova and has been waited for a long time, both by the community of psychologists and by people who need psychological assistance services,” said Liliana Grosu.
Daniela Simboteanu, founder and president of the National Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse, said that the law comes with such novelties as the regulation of the work of psychologists with the right to free practice and obtaining of a freelance certificate. “It is a response to those needs that we see in society. The psychological culture in our society has increased significantly in recent years, namely through the demand for psychological services. Also, we have a fairly large community of psychologists who specialize in various fields and are prepared to offer these psychological services, psychotherapy services to the beneficiaries. Respectively, it is absolutely necessary to regulate how the freelance certificate will be obtained according to the specializations, which are also regulated by law,” stated said Daniela Simboteanu.
The bill registered in Parliament is a component part of UN Women’s advocacy to prevent and combat violence against girls and women and to promote gender equality.
