Young man drowns after boasting he can swim across lake

A 31-year-old man drowned when wanting to show his friends that he can swim across the lake. It happened on June 9 near Popeasca village of Stefan-Voda district, Liliana Puscasu, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo. The man was picnicking beside the lake together with three friends. After consuming alcohol, he decided to show them he is a good swimmer. His mates tried to convince him not to do it. When he reached the middle of the lake, the water swallowed him. The body of the man was taken out in several hours. A number of 31 persons have drowned in Moldova's lakes and ponds since the start of this year. Twelve of them were children.
