Young man drowns in pond

A 22-year-old man drowned in a pond near Sofia village of Drochia district on May 11. He was hoeing with a friend of his in the fields. The two got thirsty and decided to swim across the pond as there was a spring on the opposite bank. One of them did not manage to cross the pond. His friend sought help from the villagers and called the rescuers. But the man was already dead. His body was taken out of the water three hours later, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, Dorina Cruc.
Nineteen persons drowned in Moldova since the start of this year. Ten of them got drowned in wells, eight in ponds, while one in a sewerage well.
