The driver that hit a young man from Dumbrava on November 17 and fled from the scene was working on a municipal minibus route. He was arrested last night, November 26, and will be prosecuted. The young man that was hit and left on the street died shortly at the hospital. According to doctors, if the ambulance had been called in time, the 25 year old man could have survived.
According to the Chisinau General Police Commissariat, the driver is an inhabitant of the capital, aged 35, and was a driver on the minibus route no. 111. The vehicle involved in the accident was found in Buiucani sector.
During the hearings, the man confessed to have drunk alcohol before driving. After the accident, he did not attend to the victim and left it to a friend. Without calling the police or an ambulance, they fled the scene, but returned in an hour and found the victim still lying there.
It’s not known who called the ambulance, but the young man couldn’t be saved.
The driver was arrested for 72 hours. He risks between 3 and 7 years in jail.
The minibus route’s administrator Ion Mamaliga told Info-Prim Neo that on the day of the accident the driver wasn’t working. The minibus hadn’t been on the route since November 16. On November 17, the mechanic notified him that the driver didn’t come to work and on November 19 he was fired for unjustified absence. The minibus involved in the accident was rented from another owner.
The driver was employed in May, but left for several months in summer and returned in September. The administrator says that nobody could expect something like this to happen s the man is person with higher education and father of a child.
