A man driving under the influence of alcohol lost control of the car and this skidded off the road and overturned in Cahul. As a result of the impact, a woman aged 35 travelling in the car died on the spot, while her partner and her eight-year-old daughter suffered injuries and were rushed to the hospital. The driver ran away, but was shortly arrested.
Contacted by IPN for details, press officer of the Cahul Police Inspectorate Cristina Ciobanu said the police were called out at about 10pm yesterday by a man who saw the damaged car.
The driver aged 28 was subject to a breath alcohol test. The Drager Alcotest showed he had 0.76 mg/l of alcohol in the exhaled air.
The man was remanded in custody for 72 hours. He faces penalty for violating the road traffic safety rules and for leaving the place of the accident.
