Dozens of young people came together on the pedestrian street in Chisinau on August 12 to mark the International Youth Day. Here, within the Youth Festival, the National Youth Council of Moldova staged a fair of youth organizations and a photo exhibition and held a discussion centering on problems faced by the youth, IPN reports.

The Festival’s coordinator Terentie Carp, who is a member of the National Youth Council, said the young people represent the most important resource of a state and by this event they want to put this resource to good use. For the event to bring together as many young people as possible, it was decided that the festival will have more components – the official part, presentation of studies, debates, presentation of the opportunities offered by the non-governmental youth sector, and a concert where there will be promoted new names of singers.

The Council’s chairman Doru Curosu said that apparently, the young people are rather active, but statistics show that their involvement is not to the required extent either because these do not know the opportunities they can enjoy or are disappointed with the situation in the country. “We have potential, but do not yet have accomplishments and there is yet a lot of work to be done. I think the most important aspect in the life of a young person is to be active - in society, at the school, at the university, in the yard and anywhere so as to promote the interests of the young people,” he stated.

The Council’s deputy chairman Adrian Balutel said that by such events they aim to promote the message that the young people must more actively take part in decision-making. This festival brings together young people so that these discuss the problems they face and the available opportunities. “Today the young people are mainly opportunists. When I started to do volunteering work, the young people didn’t look into the future as they wanted to do something here and now. Now the young people have strategic views. They look for possibilities to develop and build a future,” he said.

The festival ends with a concert that is dedicated exclusively to the young people.
