A number of 1298 books from the collection of Yury Kozhevnikov, who studied the work of Mihai Eminescu (Eminescologist), were donated by his family to the Government of Moldova, which, in turn, donated them to the National Library. “Only a person who loves his culture can appreciate another culture,” Minister of Culture Boris Focsa said at a ceremony held to transmit the collection, Info-Prim Neo reports. Attending the event, Prime Minister Vlad Filat said Yury Kozhevnikov loved the Romanian language and culture. The Kojevnikov book stock represents a new start. “Culture does not have barriers. The important thing is that it dominate our lives,” the Premier said. Art critic Andrei Turcanu said Yury Kozhevnikov was a great intellectual who discovered Eminescu, translating his works. He wrote the monograph “Eminescu and the problem of romanticism in the Romanian literature” as well as works by Lucian Blaga and intended to translate all the works of George Bacovia whom he loved a lot. He also translated poems by such Bessarabian bards as Grigore Vieru and Liviu Damian. Yury Kozhevnikov (1922 – 1993) is considered the greatest translator of the Romanian literature from Romania and Moldova into Russian. He is one of the most renowned Eminescologists who wrote a number of monographs about Eminescu's work.
