Sanitary-epidemiological norms are seriously violated at Moldova’s Railways, statement

At the state-own enterprise Moldova’s Railways, the sanitary-epidemiological norms are seriously violated. The feces from train toilets are poured out on railways and this can be even seen at large rail terminals. Moreover, the toilets are in a deplorable state, former head of the “Nord” Population and Territory Protection in Emergencies Section, Colonel Bujor Popușoi stated in a letter sent to Minister of Health, Labor and Social Protection Viorica Dumbrăveanu in a move to prevent the spread of COVID-19, IPN reports.

Bujor Popușoi said the sanitary facilities at rail terminals are in a grave state. There are wells from which the people drink water near these facilities. At rail terminals, there is no visual or sonorous information about the necessity of obeying the sanitary-epidemiological norms.

The letter notes that the employees of the Internal Security Service of Moldova’s Railways, who should monitor this area according to their functional obligations, “hide behind the door”. Bujor Popușoi makes reference to the publications of Mikhail Shchelkanov and Elena Doroshenko of Russia, who said that the novel coronavirus lives in feces during 22 days.

“When employees of Moldova’s Railways execute different works on rails in order to keep the railroads functional, children play nearby and elderly people feed their animals there, the non-taking of measures to prevent such events in the future can result in serious consequences for the company’s employees and for the people living in towns and villages situated along railroads,” runs the letter.
