Specialists anticipate that we will have by 500-600 cases of COVID-19 a day this week, Prime Minister Ion Chicu stated after having discussions with epidemiologists, IPN reports.
Premier Chicu noted that such a state of affairs is due to the resumption of economic activities on June 1. To cope with the new wave of infections, in the course of this week the Ministry of Health will ensure 2,000 more places at medical institutions and at the COVID-19 triage center at “Moldexpo”.
“In the current situation, we can no longer apply the mechanism used in the middle of March, which included the state of emergency, the stay at home and the full blocking of economic activities. We cannot do this as we no longer have financial resources and reserves. If we block the economy, we will enter a crisis and will be unable to pay salaries and pensions and the people will be unable to earn their living,” the official stated after the June 15 meeting of senior state officials.
He noted that the Government’s and public institutions’ efforts at present are not sufficient for controlling the pandemic. “We have only one available instrument – to persuade and ask you,” stated Ion Chicu, reiterating the call to the population to obey the measures to protect from and prevent the spread of COVID-19.
