A 38-year-old man from Drochia district was convicted for swindling people out of money and products worth over 11 million lei by posing as the representative of different companies. This was found guilty on several counts and sentenced to 13 years in jail and fined 7,000 lei, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, in March 2010 and November 2011 the culprit appropriated money and food products to the value of about 250,000 lei from two inhabitants of Nisporeni district by abuse of power. In May 2013, presenting himself as the representatives of an agricultural company, he illegally obtained phytosanitary products worth over 5 million lei.

He also appropriated goods valued at about 200,000 lei from two business entities after these supplied building materials for which he didn’t pay and sunflower seeds worth about 273,000 lei from a company.

In another situation, the man promised to supply soybean to an agricultural company, but delivered only a part of the quantity after he received the money, causing damage of over 5.5 million lei to the business.

By the same sentence, the court ordered that the offender should compensate the injured parties for the damage done to them. The sentence can be appealed to a higher court.
