Talks with WB over next tranche for e-Government to open at end-February

The negotiations with the World Bank to obtain the next tranche and start implementing the Electronic Transformation of Government Project are expected to start at the end of February, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology. In meetings with World Bank experts, ICT Minister Pavel Filip assured that they will contribute to the hastening and optimization of the electronic transformation of the Government of Moldova. “The implementation of the e-Government principles is one of the executive's priorities because it is a method for efficiently managing different areas and the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology plays a decisive role in this respect,” said Pavel Filip. Oleg Petrov, WB official in charge of the project, said Moldova is the first country that joined the World Bank's eTransform Initiative launched in April 2010, which is aimed at strengthening developing countries' capacities in the provision of public services. The US$20 million Electronic Transformation of Government Project was rolled out in the summer of 2010. It is implemented by specialists of the Government in partnership with WB experts and is financed by the World Bank. In 2010, the WB allocated US$2 million to Moldova for devising the project.
