The Ungheni Court and the Bălți Court will conduct activities to improve performance so as to ensure judicial services of a high quality and to strengthen connection between courts of law and litigants. The two courts were selected for piloting the project “Model Courts of Law” that was launched by USAID, IPN reports.
Deputy Chief of Mission at the U.S. Embassy in the Republic of Moldova Laura Hruby said the launch of the project is a new example of the partnership between the United States and the Republic of Moldova. It is also continued the partnership with Moldova’s courts of law so as to create judicial centers of excellence that can offer services to the communities of which they form part. The U.S. supports the national efforts to strengthen the judiciary. “The United States was and will remain a reliable partner of Moldova in these efforts. We committed ourselves to cooperate with the Moldovan authorities so as to make sure that the judicial system takes independent decisions based on the law and the Constitution, without the involvement of foreign political forces. We are eager to see the results of the project. We believe this project will have a significant impact on the judicial system in Moldova,” stated Laura Hruby.
USAID Moldova Mission Director Scott Hocklander said the access to justice and the preeminence of law are the strategic sectors of USAID assistance for the Republic of Moldova. “The project “Model Courts of Law” represents an investment of €5.6 million and is part of a greater contribution planned for the justice sector for the next few years. The citizens of the Republic of Moldova clearly communicated that the access to equitable and transparent justice is a priority, that they got tired of corruption” noted Scott Hocklander.
Attending the event, Minister of Justice Sergiu Litvinenco said the citizens of the Republic of Moldova always showed that they are eager for democracy and to live in a free state. These things cannot be ensured without building the rule of law in the Republic of Moldova. “Regrettably, the current situation is not the one we want. We do not have authentic rule of law. That’s why the things we do will be aimed namely in the given direction – to build the rule of law. Not only once we said that our ambitious agenda that derives primarily from the wishes of the people expressed in at least two elections cannot be really fulfilled if we do not enjoy the full support of the development partners. I note here the support offered by the United States to our country,” stated the minister.
The USAID project “Model Courts of Law” is designed to assist the courts of law to implement and maintain the status of model court by improved services for the public and to offer assistance for facilitating the necessary changes for increasing the efficiency, performance and quality of judicial services in Moldova.
