Women's U17 team takes second place at UEFA Development Tournament
The Moldovan women's Under-17 team occupied the second place at the UEFA Development Tournament, which took place in Vadul lui Voda in May 5-7. The girls, coached by Victor Greapca, lost on penalties 3-1 to Romania, after 0-0 in full time, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The winners’ captain Andreea Corduneanu was handed the trophy by UEFA president Michel Platini himself, who came to Moldova on the occasion of the tournament. “It’s a competition that helps some football association to develop, especially youth football”, said Platini.
During his visit in Moldova, the head of the European football governing body met with President Nicolae Timofti and Prime Minister Vlad Filat. They discussed about the development of Moldovan football, improving the technical and material base and implementing UEFA assistance programs in Moldova. This is the fourth official visit of the famed French former footballer to Moldova and the third as UEFA president.
Hungary finished third in the Development Tournament after humiliating Ukraine 10-1 in the little final.
It is for the first time the Moldovan Football Federation was handed the responsibility to host two UEFA international tournaments: U16 for boys and U17 for girls, with the participation of Moldova, Romania, Hungary and Ukraine.
