Avia Invest announces completion of works to extend airport terminal

The company Avia Invest, which manages the Chisinau International Airport on a lease contract, said the works to extend the Airport’s terminal on an area of about 4,000 square meters, which includes the arrivals, departures and baggage claim areas, were completed. The extension of the terminal enables the Airport to increase its service capacity almost two times, up to 750 passengers per hour, and to ensure maximum convenience for passengers, it is said in a communique of the company, quoted by IPN.

Avia Invest said there was set up new ventilation and air conditioning equipment and a new audio flight announcement system. The costs for reconstructing and extending the terminal, including for purchasing the modern systems and equipment, total €9 million. In the immediate period, the number of check-ins will be increased from 12 to 18, while the number of passport control checkpoints on arrival and departure will be doubled. One more section will be added to the two-section baggage conveyor belt.

The runway, apron and taxiway will also be reconstructed. The runway will be extended from 45 to 60 meters. The runway reconstruction works amount to €15 million. The old runway that hadn’t been used for 20 years started to be rehabilitated and transformed into a taxiway.

A number of repair and reconstruction works are close to completion. The new water drainage and cleaning system is almost ready. The construction of reservoirs for rainwater is also close to an end. The power supply system was modernized. The works to modernize the whole lighting and signaling systems, at the runway, apron and taxiway, go on. These cost about 3 €million.
