Carriers report problems, threaten with protests

The Employers’ Association of Motor Transport Operators (APOTA) reports problems in the field of transport and addresses an open letter to Prime Minister Dorin Recean. The petition says that the road transport sector continues to be destroyed and, if measures are not taken, the carriers will have to resort to protests, IPN reports.

The Association notes that the methodology according to which the rates for regular transport services must be set by it was to be applied from June 1, 2024, but so far it has not been approved. The methodology was drafted, but it contains indicators that do not correspond to reality. The absence of a methodology has serious consequences for the sector.

In the open letter to Premier Recean, the Association says that many regular routes are abandoned by carriers, and many localities already remained without any functional regular service. For several years now, no investments have been made in the sector. The transport units are used until they can no longer be exploited, after which the routes are closed and the carrier stops work.

Another problem lies in the legal obligations stipulated by the Road Transport Code regarding the installation of e-gps systems, tachographs and speed limiters. "Although these obligations were wrapped in a European 'package', their content is contrary to EU law and even has the potential to violate fundamental rights," says the document states.

Representatives of the Government have not yet commented on the demands submitted by the Employers' Association of Motor Transport Operators. Contacted by IPN for a reaction, they said that they will come back with an answer to carriers' requests.
