Companies will pay lower fines if they admit anticompetitive behavior

Companies in the Republic of Moldova can benefit from a 10% to 30% reduction in the fine if they admit to committing an anticompetitive practice. The draft law was approved on Thursday by the Competition Council, IPN reports.

According to a press release from the Competition Council, for companies involved in such a practice, the regulation implies a faster procedure, fewer costs and a lower fine. The total reduction in the fine can reach 50% of the initial amount, if the company actively cooperates with the investigation bodies.

The Competition Council noted that it will use this mechanism to reward companies for cooperation and in this way "save resources and reduce the time needed to make decisions on anticompetitive practices".

The new regulation will also allow the Competition Council to examine more cases, efficiently using the same resources, and will contribute to reducing the number of appeals in courts.
