The Competition Council is examining the pork market to identify any signs of potential anti-competitive practices, IPN reports.
"We encourage producers, retailers, and consumers to report any suspicious behavior so that we can intervene where the law allows," the institution stated in response to reports of rising pork prices.
The media has reported that in recent days, pork prices have increased by 15-25 lei per kilogram, with the highest prices recorded at markets. Previously, the price per kilogram was around 80 lei.
Retailers claim that prices have also risen at the producer level, citing African swine fever and the upcoming Easter holidays as key factors driving the increase.
