Energy Ministry takes steps to manage energy crisis

The Ministry of Energy organized a working meeting with the National Agency for Energy Regulation (ANRE) and energy sector companies to assess the current situation and develop measures to prevent and manage a possible energy crisis. During the meeting, the officials discussed the winter plan, which includes 45 actions aimed at ensuring energy security during the cold season, IPN reports.

Among the measures discussed were a voluntary 15% voluntary reduction in gas consumption, in line with EU recommendations, and promoting the use of alternative fuels. A major challenge identified is the lack of reservation of gas transportation capacity on the trans-Balkan reverse-flow route, a situation affecting consumers on the left bank of the Dniester. The ministry emphasized that the capacity reservation for January 2025 must be completed by December 16, 18:00, and for January 1, 2025 by December 31, 2024, 18:00.

Moldova's gas transmission system operator, VestMoldTransGaz, will have to work closely with the operators on the Trans-Balkan route to monitor daily the reservations made by traders and ensure the continuous supply of natural gas. Also, VestMoldTransGaz will constantly report to the Ministry of Energy on the development of reservations.

The meeting discussed additional measures, such as mobilization of domestic power generation capacities and maximization of energy imports. The Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to examine all risk scenarios and implement the necessary measures to prevent a possible energy crisis while protecting consumers.
