Farmers’ Force asks state to initiate dialogue with protesting farmers

In connection with the protests that have lasted for five days and are expanding geographically, the Farmers’ Force Association calls for the immediate initiation of an effective dialogue by the Government and Parliament with farmers who took to the streets, IPN reports.

“We see the events taking place all over Europe and noticed that immediately after agricultural producers’ protests broke out, the authorities sat down at the negotiating table with those who feed the country and identified solutions. We also note that the European Union recently ordered to allocate €10 million to the agricultural sector of the Republic of Moldova. It is half of the minimum amount that was long ago requested by the Farmers’ Force Association to save micro, small and medium-sized farmers,” said the Association.

It also noted that without state support, the vast majority of farmers cannot carry out agricultural works in spring in compliance with the minimum technical standards, especially because the delivery of Romanian diesel fuel is unacceptably delayed. The situation has never been so difficult in the agricultural sector and the 2022-2024 crisis can destroy thousands of agricultural producers and dozens of rural localities.

Last week, farmers in several districts of the country mounted protests together with their agricultural machines. They say that the period of sowing works is approaching and they have no money for diesel fuel, seeds or fertilizers. The farmers request the authorities to intervene with support measures. Protests were also planned for today, February 12, in Leușeni, Rezina, Fălești, Telenești, Criuleni etc.
