Freight transport on the Giurgiulești-Cahul-Chisinau railway segment will be restored. This will help increase trade, Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced on Thursday, noting that a budget amendment in the amount of 8 billion lei is to be approved by the Cabinet and Parliament, IPN reports.

The head of the executive said that 85 million lei will be allocated for the repair of the access road from Cantemir to the Fălciu railway bridge, which has not been used by traffic for 30 years. Also, the Văleni railway segment will be repaired.

"By repairing these 2 points, we will restore the transport of goods on the Giurgiulești-Cahul-Chisinau railway segment and vice versa, which will help us increase trade so that about 300,000 tonnes of goods go by rail," Premier Recean said at a press conference.

Also, through the Fălciu point, the movement of trains will be resumed after a pause of 30 years and a new connection for Moldovan goods to Romania and the European Union will be opened.

"This budget allocation is possible only thanks to the support of our friends: the European Union, the EU member states. Namely the money offered by the EU gratis allows us to offer significant compensation for electricity and heat," said Dorin Recean.
