The leader of the Coalition for Unity and Welfare (CUB) Igor Munteanu was proposed as the party’s candidate for the presidential election of October 20. The decision was approved on Sunday at the CUB’s National Political Council and was announced on Monday at a news conference, IPN reports.
“I assumed a complicated but vital task for the goals of the liberal program. We are a liberal party in the Republic of Moldova and my task is to offer an example of a candidate who will be the guarantee of the ordinary man against imposture, against the enemies of the rule of law and profiteers,” said Igor Munteanu.
According to him, the country’s citizens need hope and respect and the task of the authorities is to offer them concrete solutions to build and develop a country in which they want to live and educate their children. “I understand very clearly what the constitutional powers of the President are, but also the expectations of the population towards the authorities. In a short time, we will present the presidential program in which we will set the priorities that I propose and that reflect the expectations of our team,” noted the CUB leader.
Rodica Grama was named head of the initiative group.
At the end of last week, the Coalition for Unity and Welfare announced that it does not support Octavian Țîcu as a candidate for the office of President fielded by the political bloc “Together”, of which the CUB was a member. Today, the three parties remaining in the bloc – PPDA, LOC and the Party of Change – go to the Central Election Commission to submit the documents for having the designated candidate Octavian Țîcu registered as a contender in the presidential race.
