Moldova continues to diversify its gas supply sources in order to ensure its energy security in the context of the recent crises provoked by Russia. The statement was made by Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu, who is taking part in the 11th Ministerial Meeting of the Southern Gas Corridor Consultative Council and the 3rd Ministerial Meeting of the Green Energy Consultative Council, which are taking place in Baku, Azerbaijan, IPN reports.

"In recent years, the Republic of Moldova has been going through a series of energy crises, which started in 2021, largely caused by Russia's actions. We have managed to turn these challenges into opportunities, strengthening our energy security and diversifying our supply sources," the minister said.

The official reiterated Moldova's firm commitment to integrating the energy sector into the European Single Market ahead of EU accession.

"We were the first country to commercially use the Greece-Bulgaria interconnector and among the first to benefit from LNG deliveries to the Alexandroupolis terminal. We have demonstrated the commercial viability of the vertical corridor by transporting gas to underground storage facilities in Ukraine," Dorin Junghietu added.

The Energy Minister also expressed confidence in the realization of a single tariff for the entire vertical corridor, which will support commercial development and ensure long-term sustainability.

"A transparent and single tariff structure will make the Southern Gas Corridor more attractive for business and investors", Dorin Junghietu concluded.

Regarding the energy transition, the Minister underlined that Moldova has already made significant progress towards decarbonization and renewable energy.

The events in Baku brought together ministers, high-level representatives from participating countries and Southern Gas Corridor partners, CEOs of major energy companies as well as international financial institutions. The meetings addressed topics of international importance on ensuring continuous and reliable energy supply as well as major challenges in the global energy field.
